Maryland
What Maryland's rule says
What are the calling hours in Maryland?
In Maryland, telephone solicitations are allowed only from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and no more than three to the same person in 24 hours on the same subject. The rules come from the Stop the Spam Calls Act, Md. Code, Com. Law § 14-4502(c), in force since January 1, 2024.
Maryland's exemptions reach only the act's consent rule, not the hours, so nearly every caller is held to 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; government callers are the clear exception.
Business-to-business calls look covered: the act's presumption that a call reached a Maryland resident mentions businesses.
Maryland also requires every party's consent to record a call (Md. Code, Cts. & Jud. Proc. § 10-402).
Who the rule covers
Maryland's window applies on top of the federal 8 a.m.–9 p.m. rules; where both apply, follow the narrower one.
- Covers: all telephone solicitations to Maryland residents, including autodialed and recorded calls.
- Three-call limit: no more than three solicitations to a person in 24 hours on the same subject.
- Texts: named only in the consent definition, so the hours' reach to texts isn't settled.
Maryland's rules and where they come from
Stop the Spam Calls Act (Md. Code, Com. Law § 14-4502(c)): No telephone solicitation between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., and no more than three to a person in 24 hours on the same subject. Covers autodialed and recorded calls. In force since January 1, 2024.

Do Maryland's calling hours apply to texts?
'Telephone solicitation' means communicating by telephone; texts appear only in the consent definition (§ 14-4501). Applying 8 a.m.–8 p.m. to marketing texts is the safe setting.
Time zones and area codes in Maryland
Maryland is on one clock: Eastern.
Area codes in Maryland: 227, 240, 301, 410, 443, 667. A number's area code is a clue to where the person is, not proof: people keep their numbers when they move.
Calling Maryland from TopReach
TopReach smart lists only dial a lead inside the legal window in their own time zone (weekdays 9 a.m.–9 p.m., weekends 10 a.m.–6 p.m.) and skip statutory holidays, and a rep calling a lead outside their hours is asked to confirm first. They don't apply Maryland's own rule for you. To stay inside it, set your workspace's quiet hours from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m..
Recording calls into Maryland: All-party consent: everyone must agree. TopReach records only when your workspace policy says so (never, always, or the rep's choice), and it doesn't play a recording announcement for you, so reps say it at the start of the call where consent is needed.
