What Louisiana's rule says

What are the calling hours in Louisiana?

In Louisiana, telephone solicitations are allowed only from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, never on Sundays or state holidays, and not at all while a governor-declared state of emergency is in force. The rules are La. R.S. 45:811 and the Louisiana Public Service Commission's do-not-call order.

Louisiana is one of the few places where an emergency shuts calling down: while a state of emergency declared by the governor is in force, telephone solicitation stops entirely.

There are two layers. The statute covers automatic dialers and live operators selling personal, family or household goods; the Commission's order applies the hours to every residential solicitation, including by solicitors the do-not-call law otherwise exempts.

The Commission order on record is General Order R-29617. A 2021 order (R-35852) reportedly replaced it, but its document wasn't available when we checked, and the Commission's FAQ still links R-29617.

Who the rule covers

Louisiana's window applies on top of the federal 8 a.m.–9 p.m. rules; where both apply, follow the narrower one.

  • Covers: residential telephone solicitations, by automatic dialer or live operator.
  • Days: Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; closed on Sundays and state legal holidays.
  • Emergencies: no telephone solicitation during a governor-declared state of emergency.

Louisiana's rules and where they come from

Telephone solicitation hours (La. R.S. 45:811): Calls by automatic dialing devices or live operators selling personal, family or household goods only between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday; none on Sundays or state holidays.

Do-not-call order (Louisiana Public Service Commission): Applies the same hours to all residential telephone solicitations, including by solicitors otherwise exempt, and bans calls on Sundays and legal holidays.

Do Louisiana's calling hours apply to texts?

Louisiana's do-not-call law speaks of 'voice or data communication' and doesn't name texts. Keeping marketing texts inside its window is the safe setting.

Calling Louisiana from TopReach

TopReach smart lists only dial a lead inside the legal window in their own time zone (weekdays 9 a.m.–9 p.m., weekends 10 a.m.–6 p.m.) and skip statutory holidays, and a rep calling a lead outside their hours is asked to confirm first. They don't apply Louisiana's own rule for you. To stay inside it, set your workspace's quiet hours from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., business days Monday to Saturday, and skip Louisiana's state holidays that aren't federal holidays.

Recording calls into Louisiana: One-party consent: you can record a call you're on. TopReach records only when your workspace policy says so (never, always, or the rep's choice), and it doesn't play a recording announcement for you, so reps say it at the start of the call where consent is needed.
